PERKASIE, Pa. -

A Bucks County third grader waiting patiently for his Army captain stepmom to return home from the Middle East got an early Christmas present Tuesday.

When nine-year-old Tyler Scott entered the auditorium for a midday assembly at Deibler Elementary School in Perkasie, Pennsylvania, he had no idea he was to be the star of the show.

Waiting in the wings was his stepmom, an Army captain on her second tour of duty in Kuwait, who as far as Tyler knew, was due back soon.

Tyler's dad, Army Sgt. Walter Scott, worked with the school to pull off the surprise.

Tyler was called to the front of the auditorium as part of a celebration honoring military families. Waiting for him was a large, gift-wrapped box on the stage that was described as a "special delivery" for Tyler.

As Tyler, with the help of his dad, opened the gift, out came his mom.

"It was great to see him and hold him in my arms and be able to hug him again," Captain Anne Scott told FOX 29's Bruce Gordan.
