A man armed with a gun in front of the First United Methodist Church in Millington, Tenn., was shot and wounded by police Sunday afternoon after the man refused to lower or drop his weapon, police said.
The police-involved shooting took place at around 2 p.m. in the 8000 Block of Wilkinsville near School.
Two officers were dispatched to the church after police received a shots fired call. Upon arriving outside the church one officer ordered the man to lower his weapon. The man refused and the officer wounded the man in self-defense.
The armed suspect was shot once. He was taken to The MED in Memphis for a non-critical wound.
The officer involved in the shooting was relieved of duty pending an investigation.
The names of the officer or the suspect are not known.
