COOKEVILLE, Tenn. (AP) -
Senior running back Corn Elder rushed for three touchdowns and 217 yards and Ensworth defeated Memphis University School 31-14 Thursday night to win its third straight TSSAA Division II-AA championship.
The game at Tennessee Tech's Tucker Stadium was the second time the teams met this season, with the Tigers (13-0) also beating the Owls (10-3) 35-28 in their season opener.
Elder, who had 32 carries, was named the game's offensive MVP, while Ensworth quarterback Andrew Bowers threw for 152 yards on 8 of 11 passing.
Senior safety Matt Bolton of Memphis University School was named the defensive MVP after recording 13 total tackles- nine solo and four assisted - as well as recovering a fumble.
The Owls' Jordan Rodgers threw for 151 yards and a touchdown on 20 for 37 passing.
Ensworth led 17-14 at halftime, shutting out Memphis University School in the second half.
