Resignation Of Newtown Township Police Chief A Mystery To Residents

Posted: Updated:
NEWTOWN TOWNSHIP, Pa. -

The Board of Supervisors in Newtown have voted to approve a separation agreement with police chief Dennis Anderson, but many residents say the reasons for it are a mystery.

Anderson, who has been off the job and getting paid over the last six months, will get a hefty check courtesy of the township.

Joseph Catania of the Newtown Township Board of Supervisors tells FOX 29's Chris O'Connell they have agreed to a $175,000 settlement.

The settlement has come as a shock to some residents, who say they've never really been certain about what's been happening with the police chief.

Elected officials say they cannot discuss personnel matters, leaving a bit of a mystery as to why it even happened in the first place.

The settlement does not include the months of attorney fees the township has racked up.

An interim chief has since been named as Anderson's replacement.
