Bishop Brandon Porter of Memphis has been elected to the Church of God In Christ's 12-member General Board of Bishops.
Porter's addition to the COGIC leadership board is the first time in nearly six years a Memphian has been on the Memphis-based denomination's presiding board since Bishop G. E. Patterson.
Bishop Patterson died in March 2007. Two years after his passing, the convocation left the Bluff City taking major tourism dollars to St. Louis.
