Demolition is set to begin on Memphis' historic W. C. Handy Theatre, largely thanks to the efforts of City Councilwoman Wanda Halbert.
While it's hosted such legendary acts as Louis Armstrong and the Bar-Kays, the now abandoned theatre at Park and Airways is considered an eyesore.
Councilwoman Halbert waged a five-year battle to have the building torn down, who also says she hopes this will be the start of a new revitalization effort in the Orange Mound community.
