Demolition is set to begin on Memphis' historic W. C. Handy Theatre, largely thanks to the efforts of City Councilwoman Wanda Halbert.

Councilwoman Halbert waged a five-year battle to have the building torn down, who also says she hopes this will be the start of a new revitalization effort in the Orange Mound community.
