DETROIT (WJBK/AP) -- Thick fog in parts of southeast Michigan is slowing down drivers and prompting warnings from weather officials.

The fog early Monday reduced visibility in some places to less than a quarter mile, prompting motorists to cut their speeds because of low visibility.

The start of classes was delayed at some schools due to fog. Click here to view all closings and delays.

The fog was expected to dissipate by midday. Until then, a dense fog advisory remains in effect until 11 a.m. FOX 2's Al Allen says motorists should slow down, use low headlight beams and allow more time for travel.

Fog also was seen in parts of the state Sunday morning. And forecasters say it could be a problem other days this week.
