PHILADELPHIA -
The future is uncertain for Eagles quarterback Michael Vick. At least, that's what it sounds like, from what Eagles head trainer Rick Burkholder said Friday.
After suffering a concussion in Sunday's loss against the Dallas Cowboys, Vick hasn't made much progress and is far from playing football anytime soon.
"He's had symptoms all week, since the game. He's had a headache, which has gotten better during the week. He's foggy. You know, he's not very alert right now in terms of he just doesn't have that energy. He's tired all the time, he slept a lot, and he's not getting rid of the fatigue. I would consider him heavy-eyed. When you talk to him he's just not the Michael Vick that I know when he's healthy."
So, rookie Nick Foles will make his first NFL start on Sunday against the Washington Redskins.
Foles threw for 219 yards with one touchdown and one interception against Dallas after coming in for Vick.
Foles had this to say Friday about his approach to his first start: "Don't try to do too much. That's the key on any level. I learned that in college. At times I tried to do too much. And, really, just stay calm and, you know, trust the preparation, trust the week of practice with the guys. And, you know, we have 10 other guys out there with me playing together. So, it's a group, we work together."
Running back LeSean McCoy said, "I'm confident that he'll handle himself the right way."
"And the good thing is the coaches, they're not taking it easy on him," McCoy said. "They're giving him a nice amount to deal with, you know? So, he'll be fine."
