A motorist trying to beat an on-coming train Tuesday afternoon at the intersection of Highland Street and Southern Avenue was stopped after it slid into the railroad crossing arms.
The railroad crossing arms were down in advance of the train.
The train did hit the car, shearing off the front bumper.
There were no injuries reported but afternoon traffic halted to a crawl while first responders cleaned up the accident.
Though no charges have been filed, the driver could be cited.
