OAK PARK, Mich. (WJBK) -- 47-year-old Vladimir Zvynka was gunned down Monday night in the middle of the Greenfield Plaza parking lot in Oak Park. Now police have released the surveillance video captured at the scene, images they hope will lead to his killers.
A two-tone Chevy Suburban pulled into the parking lot. A half hour later, Zvynka, who worked for one of the doctors in the building, can be seen walking out. As he approached his vehicle, there was a scuffle. Zvynka was shot. The Suburban got away and was gone before police arrive.
"We certainly believe it's a botched robbery, but it's still under investigation," said Lieutenant Samantha Kretzschmar from Oak Park Police.
The surveillance video shows the suspects' vehicle arriving several minutes before Zvynka walked out into the parking lot. Police are trying to figure out if he was specifically targeted or if this was a crime of opportunity.
"We don't know if they had other business there. It is a very popular building to do business, so we don't know if he was targeted, if they were waiting specifically for him, or if he just happened to be the unlucky person that came by that they thought that they could get something from," Kretzschmar said.
That's why police want to know more about the vehicle in the video that looks similar to a nineties Chevy Suburban with a dark-colored upper body and light-colored lower body.
Zvynka, who lived in Waterford, leaves behind a wife and a daughter. His funeral is set for Friday.
If you have any information about this crime or recognize the Suburban, call Oak Park Police.
