SOUTHFIELD, Mich. (WJBK) -- The victorious president said all the right things. He pushed all the right buttons as he launched into the next four years hoping for more bipartisan cooperation then he got in the last.
"I am looking forward to reaching out and working with leaders of both parties to meet the challenges we can only solve together," the president said early Wednesday morning.
Mr. Romney also took the high road, and the president has even talked about including his former opponent in trying to rid the nation's capitol of its stagnation.
But here's the harsh reality. The president is working with the exact same set of GOP leaders that he dealt with before the election, and the House Republican speaker, Mr. Boehner, has already said no new revenue to eliminate the deficit. The president still wants it.
Meanwhile, on the state front, the Michigan Republican governor has forged a good working relationship with the Obama White House, and Governor Snyder is all about cooperating. After all, he needs the president in order to get a new transit system in the city of Detroit. The governor also wants Republican lawmakers to enact part of the president's healthcare program and so far they have balked.
After an election, there is always a renewed sense of hope and optimism that they can get their act together in Washington and Lansing and work on a bipartisan basis, but it is not the norm. After all, we are still a badly divided country -- red and blue -- and the popular vote yesterday underscored that point.
So the question remains, will the election change any of that?

The undone stuff Gov. Snyder and Lt. Gov. Calley are still struggling to adopt is piling up like the garbage in your neighbor's backyard and it's beginning to stink.

"To a certain extent, this is like a death. It's like a death or it's like a divorce. It's a major loss," said Dr. Howard Belkin.
The re-election of President Barack Obama was a hard-fought victory for Democrats coupled with an equally hard loss for Republicans who believed Mitt Romney would win. "It's like a death or it's like a divorce," said Dr. Howard Belkin.
