Lisa Gaskin is a lady on a mission. With a donated 26 foot truck from Penske, the native New Yorker spent Saturday camped out in the parking lot of the Walmart on Ford Rd. in Canton collecting desperately needed supplies for her hometown.

Much of Staten Island was devastated when Sandy came crashing ashore Monday. Since then, many residents have been forced to live without basic necessities. There's no electricity, many homes are flooded, and the weather is getting cold. Home Depot, Walmart, and Sam's Club are just some of the businesses here in southeast Michigan helping Lisa's effort. She's been in contact with relatives back home to get the supplies to those who need it the most.

"There are about 200 people meeting us on the other end," Lisa told Fox 2. "We are mapping the exact location. The goal is stay here until truck is full."

The large truck is quickly filling up but more is needed. Items like blankets, warm coats, hats and gloves. Lisa plans to collect donations again at the Canton Walmart on Ford Road Sunday; the truck is expected to head to New York on Monday.
