Two more MPD officers are now being investigated.
Officer Darrell Malone has been relieved of duty pending an investigation into his behavior when he was off duty. A citizen complained that Malone was driving erratically though traffic on his motorcycle. When confronted, Malone allegedly showed the driver a handgun in his waistband.
The citizen said he was able to get his phone number and called him after the incident. Both Officer Malone and a dispatcher were relieved of duty.
Last week, Fox13 learned Lieutenant Dennis Toll is being investigated by the FBI. Toll is assigned to the economic crimes bureau.
The FBI will not comment on the nature of the investigation. Toll has been assigned to desk duty during the investigation.
Several negative incidents over the last few months have caused the Mayor to take action.
Mayor Wharton says a panel to investigate officer behavior and offer ethics training will be ready to launch in the next ten days, "The Memphis public, or anybody, who feels wronged by conduct of a police officer, will have a way to report that immediately."
Wharton says the panel will be much more extensive than he originally planned. It will also help officer who want additional training outside of promotional procedures.
