Nike says its expanding and investing in Memphis,
but the Mayor says its not a done deal yet.
On its website, Nike announced plans to expand and
invest in the facility. Wharton says there are still steps to take, including
approval from the City Council and State Officials, as well as adjustments to
the budget.
The City and County jointly offered a 15 year tax
exemption, totaling nearly 58 million dollars.
Nike would move 16 hundred jobs from its other
facility plus add 250 new jobs.
The new jobs added would have an average salary of
$35,000 a year.
Nike says the expanded facility will be online in
2014.
