In the Job Shop, Selfridge Air National Guard base has dozens of job openings that need to be filled, both part and full time.
Technical Sergeant Chandra Corrado production recruiter from the 127th Wing joined us in the studio with information about more than 75 jobs that need to be filled.
To be eligible for the positions a candidate must enlist in the Michigan Air National Guard. You must be between the ages of 17 and 39. You have to be a high school graduate or complete the GED. The positions available include everything from Law Enforcement to Fire Protection and Health care services. Candidates must also pass an annual fitness test.
Brand-new enlistees earn about $200 for a weekend of duty and over $6,000 a year in total pay for service of one weekend per month and about two weeks of annual training. New enlistees spend additional time on duty, going through basic military training and technical school. Enlisted Airmen with six years of service could earn about $10,000 per year by serving the minimum of one weekend per month and two weeks of annual training.
Corrado said that a new Airman's basic and technical training carries an added bonus in that both award college credit upon completion.
"So if someone says to me that they don't want to delay going to college, the truth is that by going to Air Force training you are earning college credit - and you are getting paid for it," she said. Depending on the career field, the initial training for an individual can be worth anywhere from six to 30 college credit hours."
Opportunities also exist at Selfridge for individuals who previously served in the military to re-enlist in the Air National Guard, Corrado said.
