Another organization comes out in favor of the Shelby County Sales Tax increase.
The NAACP is now pushing the half cent tax increase. It goes before the voters on November 6th. Supporters say the increase would generate 30 million dollars for local schools.
The Transition Planning Commission has recommended expanded Pre-K education after the schools merger. Advocates for the tax say the increase would fund that.
15 million dollars would mean 2500 more kids could get Pre-K in 125 additional classrooms.
Only voters who live in Memphis and in un-incorporated parts of Shelby County will vote for this countywide sales tax hike. Like we've mentioned, people in the suburbs won't get a chance to vote in this tax referendum because they've already passed their own.
