Ahead of the highly anticipated debate with Vice President Biden Thursday, Paul Ryan began to spar when he told reporters he thinks his opponent's "Achilles heel" is "President Obama's record."
The vice presidential contender stopped by Old Farmer's Creamery before heading to the airport, and the travelling press immediately began tossing questions at him as he exited his black SUV. This was the first time Ryan talked openly about the debate following days of preparation in the Virginia mountains and several practice sessions at the Vinoy hotel in St. Petersburg. Lawyer Ted Olson has played Biden in debate camp.
Ryan admitted a sense of nervousness when a reporter asked him if he is experiencing "any butterflies."
"Look, Joe Biden has been on this stage many times before," he said. "This is my first time so sure it's a nervous situation because Joe Biden is one of the most experienced debaters we have in modern politics. But the Achilles heel he has is President Obama's record and I'm really looking forward to giving the American people a very clear choice."
Ryan was also asked about Mitt Romney's position on abortion; Romney told the Des Moines Register editorial board "there's no legislation with regards to abortion that I'm familiar with that would become part of my agenda."
The Wisconsin congressman said he and Romney's positions are on the same page.
"Our position's unified," he said. "Our position is consistent and hasn't changed."
