Overton High School Awarded Laura Bush Foundation Grant

Memphis, Tenn. – Overton High School has been awarded a grant from the Laura Bush Foundation for America's Libraries. These grants are awarded annually to support efforts to expand, update and diversify school library collections. Overton is one of 238 schools across the nation to be awarded this grant for the 2012 – 2013 school year.

Founded in 2002, the Laura Bush Foundation for America's Libraries has awarded more than $9.5 million to schools in all 50 states and U.S. territories. Each year, schools are awarded up to $5,000 to further literacy their efforts. The mission of this foundation is to help students become lifelong learners of information, as well as prepare students to become career and college ready.

Overton High School will use its grant to purchase additional resources for the school's library. The grant will also allow for continued improvements in its library collection and create an increased focus on reading to help students excel academically.

In 2011, Sheffield High School and Treadwell Elementary were named Laura Bush Foundation grant recipients.
