SOUTHFIELD, Mich. -- Veteran newsman and longtime FOX 2 morning reporter Al Allen is hanging up his microphone in December.
"I was in radio for 16, 17 years prior to coming to FOX 2. This has been almost 50 years I've been doing this," said Allen.
He officially announced to his co-workers Monday that December 7 will be his last day.
"No more overpasses. No more hats, scarves and gloves. No more snow when the freeways are all messed up," Allen said. "I'll just sit home and watch TV and it's warm and drink my tea and be happy."
Any advice for his successor?
"The biggest advice, be patient and dress warm because brother, you're going to need it."
Allen is also following his own advice, saying you should "always leave on a payday because you get your check, then you walk out the door."
In the video report, Allen reminisces about a memorial experience at one of his live locations.
