My Reaction to Cabrera Winning Triple Crown

Posted: Updated:
As I watched the final pitch of the last game of the regular season for the Tigers in Kansas City - sports sap that I am, the emotions are already converging. Baseball is not my favorite sport, but in my mind nothing is more poetic or dramatic than baseball in October. It so often defies logic and common sense (see Josh Hamilton drop) for a sport that is more often than not dependent on the numbers, but so overwhelming challenged by "The Gods" and superstitions. But all of that will come again, year after year in a welcoming Fall tradition like the Cubs collapse in 2003 and the Red Sox cleansing in 2004. But tonight we have a chance to see something that only comes along once every two generations (if that). To see a Triple Crown winner will be a first in my memory, I was two when Yaz did it for the City of Boston in 1967, will be an amazing moment for everyone who is a fan of the sport of baseball. For those of us here in Detroit - it's something more...Pride and ownership perhaps, that the man who is standing on the edge of baseball history has provided all of this drama right here on our stage. Of course it would mean much less without a Central Division Title already in tact, but because the stage is set and the planets have all aligned for Detroit to not only roll into the post season but to do so with the best player in the game, tonight will be a magical moment for the fans of Miguel Cabrera and the Tigers - because for the next however many years, we can say I remember, while quite possibly wiping a tear from our eye.
