Though a finalist for the position, Memphis City Schools Superintendent Dr. Kriner Cash was not offered to become the next superintendent of the Duval County School District near Jacksonville, Fla.
The Duvaul County School District considered Dr. Kriner as one of their top three candidates for the position but school board members Tuesday afternoon voted in favor of Dr. Nikolai Vitti, an associate superintendent with the Miami-Dade County Public Schools.
Tuesday's vote was made after a final round of face-to-face interviews with the finalists.
Dr. Cash will remain superintendent with MCS until 2013. His contract was not renewed.
