ORANGE MOUND, Tenn. (FOX13) -

A 91-year-old man was shot Thursday morning in what Memphis police say is a possible home invasion.

The elderly victim, who was transported to The MED in critical condition, was shot in the 1100 block of Poppen Drive, which is located in the Orange Mound district of Memphis.

Neighbor Andre Fletcher identifies the man as Marion Woods, an electrician who settled in the Orange Mound area 50 years ago.

"The guy was really quiet, didn't bother nobody," says Fletcher.

The shooting and possible invasion took place in the 9 a.m. hour.

The suspect, a black male in his 20s, fled the scene and is still at-large.

The incident remains under investigation.

If you can assist police, you are urged to call 901-528-CASH. You can remain anonymous.

FOX13 News has learned that violent crimes are up 69-percent in September 2012 within one mile of the University of Memphis campus compared to September 2011.
