Mayor Davis guilty of passing school bus

SOUTHAVEN, Miss. (FOX13) -

Southaven, Miss., Mayor Greg Davis was found guilty Thursday afternoon in DeSoto County Justice Court stemming from a March 22 incident where he passed a stopped school bus in his personal SUV and illegally used red and blue flashing lights.

Both charges are misdemeanors.

Mayor Davis claimed that he drove around the stopped school bus after he tried to pull over another vehicle he claimed to be reckless. The also claimed the vehicle he tried to stop also maneuvered around the stopped bus.

Tallhatchie County Judge Steve Ross and a Tunica County prosecutor were appointed to the case after DeSoto County judges and prosecutors had to recuse themselves because they all knew or have had dealings with Mayor Davis.

Judge Ross fined Mayor Davis $750 for the two misdemeanors - $500 for passing the school bus and $250 for the red and blue lights violation. The mayor was also ordered to pay $208 in court costs.

Mayor Davis has 30 days to appeal the judgement.
