16 kindergartners, 1 Rosemount neighborhood

ROSEMOUNT, Minn. (KMSP) -

It's 8 a.m. in Rosemount, Minn. and the day is just getting going for Tammy Holleman.

That means getting her daughter Tamia's teeth brushed, breakfast served, hair done, lunch made and school reminders complete.

It seems pretty routine and quiet, but the same thing is taking place for 15 other kindergartners all within four blocks of each other.

To give us an idea of how the morning goes, Tammy invited them over to show us what a typical gathering of 16 kindergartners looks like.

As we found out, it's pretty much chaos.

Then it's off to the bus, where oh-by-the-way they had to add a second stop to the route with so many kids. Kids who are anxious to get going.

And when that bus finally leaves, it's a little strange.

"The first day of school, when all the kids are gone and it's quiet outside and quiet in the house, it seems so mysterious and wrong." said mom Melissa.

But not that wrong.

"More independence is nice."

So how did this all begin?

We first met the moms back in 2007 -- 17 of them, pregnant with 18 kids. Then a year later we were back to meet the little ones.

Back to today, the pack of 16 returns from Red Pine Elementary. Only 16 you say? The neighborhood lost two when the twins moved away, but they are hoping the rest of the group can stay together.

"They always say it takes a village," mom Lisa said. "We are the village."

After a long day of school the kids are ready to wind down, right? Not even for a second...

"It's like having a big family where we live," dad John said. "You look out in our backyard it's like a swarm of bees of kids just hovering. We all sit on the deck and watch them right there."

So now it's time to round them up and get them in line. Easy job, right?

Patience is key.

Watching all these kids can be a challenge, but in this neighborhood everyone has one another's back.

"We parent together," Tammy said. "It's like everybody is giving the other parent the okay."

This Rosemount neighborhood is an exceptionally nice community that's grown up together, from the pregnancies to the births of all these children to now. As parents we certainly know in a blink of an eye everything changes.

NOTE: The parents tell us there were so many new additions to Red Pine Elementary, the school had to even add an extra kindergarten class this year.
