A former teacher at Brophy College Prepatory High School was arrested Saturday morning for allegedly sexually abusing several male students over 20 years ago.
Dan P. Whitehead, 71, is charged with sexual assault, attempted sexual abuse, furnishing harmful items to a minor and contributing to the delinquency of a minor.
The arrest comes almost a year after authorities were told about the alleged sexual assault and abuse.
In November of 2011, two former students came forward and told staff at Brophy that Whitehead had touched each of them on their private parts against their will when they were at his house.
The incidents occurred in the 1980's when the men were teenagers who had Whitehead as a teacher at Brophy. After telling Brophy staff what happened, the victims didn't want to contact police. Whitehead's was immediuately fired from Brophy after police were told about the allegations.
The investigation was unable to proceed because the victims would not contact or give information to the police. Eventually, several victims and witnesses came forward that allowed investigaters to continue the investigation.
Investigators learned that while Whitehead was a teacher at the school, he invited the victims to his house for various reasons. When at his home, Whitehead viewed pronography with the boys and gave them alcohol. He then fondled or tried to fondle the victims.
