The FBI swarmed a Tubby's sub shop in Oakland County Wednesday. We've learned the owner could be facing some serious charges.
"He's got kids out there. They're always out there playing. He always comes by, says hello. He takes care of his lawn, what have you. He's always been pleasant," said neighbor Larry Folkoff.
However, the man who so many describe as a nice neighbor has been arrested by the FBI. It happened while 49-year-old Alaa Qasawa was at his Lake Orion Tubby's sub shop.
While the feds were searching his sub shop, Fox 2's cameras caught the FBI raiding his West Bloomfield home. Agents brought out boxes of evidence.
Of course, neighbors watched in shock, but they said Qasawa's wife tried to fill them in.
"She talked to some of the neighbors and indicated that he has a gun collection and that he was purchasing some guns online," Folkoff said.
Agents did bring out boxes that could've contained guns, but sources told us that's not what brought them there.
Sources said the raids and Qasawa's arrest stem from an allegation that he was manufacturing explosives. The FBI would only confirm that their agents searched both locations, and people in that West Bloomfield neighborhood are hoping the allegations just aren't true.
"We'll just wait and see what happens and find out what he was doing, if he was doing anything at all. If it was nothing, go back to our normal days, and if it was something, we'll let it play out," said Folkoff.
At this point, all we have is a really broad description of the allegations that Qasawa is facing. We should learn more on Thursday when he goes to court.
