FARMINGTON HILLS, Mich. (MyFox Detroit) -- Surveillance video shows a man beat a woman to the ground right in the middle of a BP gas station.
"My brother and I were shocked. We didn't know what was going on," said gas station owner Vince Orow.
He witnessed the vicious attack Saturday evening and showed us the surveillance video that captured it all. It was allegedly sparked over road rage.
Farmington Hills police say it all started when a man driving a Firebird heading north on construction filled Orchard Lake Road slammed on his brakes and cut the driver of a SUV off. She pulled into the BP near 13 Mile and the man followed.
The woman and man confronted each other. The man chest bumped her, she pushed him away, but he came back for more, slamming her head several times onto the hood of a vehicle where he continued to strike the 34-year-old woman. She tried to fight back. The video shows him throw her to the ground where he punched the woman nearly a half a dozen times before a customer alerted the owners of the gas station, who immediately ran out to break it up, but the man got in one last stomp.
"My brother threw him off and as he threw him off, they guy stepped on her, actually kicked her, and we pushed him off, and he just jumped in the car and fled off," Orow explained.
Motorists who watched it all go down followed the Firebird and called police, leading officers to the suspect, 52-year-old Steven Schut of Ohio, about two miles away in West Bloomfield. He was arrested for marijuana possession and aggravated assault.
Police say there are conflicting reports about who started the fight. Schut appears to have a black eye and several scratches on his face in his mug shot.
"She was speechless. She was pretty much laying there helpless," Orow said. "She said, 'I thought I was going to die.' So, it was just pretty bad and she was pretty beat up."
The woman was taken to the hospital and will be okay.
Meanwhile, Schut plead not guilty, posted bond and we're told is back in Ohio on tether.
