Memphis City Councilwoman Janis Fullilove and her husband were arrested early Tuesday morning after an alleged domestic situation at their home.
According to reports, police were called to the home in the 3300 block of Morningview at about 12:17 a.m. Her husband, Vernon Chalmers, said that he had been out babysitting his grandchildren and had visited a friend afterwards. Upon returning to his house, Fullilove accused him of cheating on her. She then started throwing dishes at Chalmers.
Fullilove and Chalmers were each charged with domestic assault causing bodily harm.
Bond for Chalmers was set at $1,000. Fullilove was released without bond early Tuesday.
Chalmers said Fullilove had been drinking and he pushed her to the floor and held her down.
Fullilove passed out on the sidewalk after being taken into custody by police. Police said she declined medical attention afterwards.
Chalmers arm was cut during the disturbance.
