A Millington Central High Football player has died to an injury he sustained during practice on Tuesday.
Sources say that Dana Payne was hit in the chest by another player's helmet.
After the injury, Payne was rushed to Le Bonheur where he was pronounced dead.
He was in the 10th grade.
Shelby County Schools Superintendent John Aitken called off a school board meeting after learning of the tragedy.
Wednesday, school officials said counselors were on hand at the school and they were sending a letter home with the students. They also said they have not made a decision on practice yet.
Millington is set to play at Kirby on Friday.
