Thieves bust through the back wall of a Detroit liquor store to try to pull off an early morning burglary. What they weren't count on was a neighborhood watch volunteer who wouldn't give up until the cops came.
"I called ten times and gave them a play-by-play of what was going on," said Francine Adams.
She couldn't believe what she was seeing and hearing at Caesar's liquor store around five o'clock Friday morning. Thieves pilled out of a pickup truck and then began breaking through the back brick wall of the store on Van Dyke and Stockton with a sledge hammer. Security cameras caught it all on tape.
As the thieves entered the main floor, they had no idea Detroit Police were already on their way thanks to a calls from the alarm company and Adams. Cops arrive, but not before the bold thieves helped themselves to thousands of dollars in cash and several bottles of top shelf liquor.
In a misguided attempt to cover up the crime, one of them even tried to take the security monitor and left the computer recording the burglary untouched.
However, it was all for naught as the cops entered the store and one by one brought out three suspects, even one they found hiding in a cooler.
The owner's cousin said he is grateful police responded so quickly, and he is especially thankful to the neighbors like Adams for looking out, too.
"I care about what's going on around here, and we need to help law enforcement do their job. So when you see or hear a crime in progress, you call in," Adams said.
Detroit Police told us they arrested three suspects for the break-in and think they have everyone involved in custody.
