It may be the one of the few good things to come out of the dry weather we have had this summer, the construction site of the future Methodist Healthcare Olive Branch Hospital has been busy non-stop.
"We are doing fantastic, we are fortunate to take advantage of the weather that we have had, and while it hasn't been good for the farmers, it has certainly helped construction, we are on schedule for completion in the end of June 2013," says David Rosenbaum Methodist Hospital.
The support columns and second floor for the hospital are in place.
"So probably by mid-January, the hospital will be enclosed and it will look like a building and we have all the interior work to do," says Rosenbaum. "This is going to be a full service community hospital we'll have cardiac care and orthopedic care, and obstetric care, general surgery and medical surgery and emergency services."
Right now, it's about a 25 minute drive to Germantown Methodist and a 25 minute drive to Baptist Desoto in Southaven. When this hospital is done, if you live in Olive Branch, you're not going to have that drive.
Rosenbaum adds, "We expect that this hospital will be the community hospital for the citizens of Olive Branch and north Desoto County, potentially some folks who live on the state line in Shelby County."
The 100 bed hospital will bring in about 400 jobs, plus jobs from surrounding businesses that support the hospital.
