DETROIT (WJBK) -
A Detroit neighborhood became a dumping ground for a stolen truck. A neighbor told us they repeatedly called police, but got no response, so he called the Fox 2 Problem Solvers.
"I looked up and down Detroit, and it's so big I can't find it," said Darren Cowie, who owns the stolen truck.
While he was searching, Anthony Carter said he was calling Detroit Police.
"Something don't look right about it," he explained.
The pickup truck stuck out like a sore thumb. It had been parked on Carter's east side block for almost three weeks.
"Looked inside and seen that the ignition was broke," said Carter.
That's when he and his neighbors realized the truck was most likely stolen and just dumped in their neighborhood, so Carter said he did what he was supposed to do. He called police.
"Made several attempts to call the police, 911, over the past month, and nothing's been done about it."
Carter said he called three times.
"They just say, 'Okay, we've got it. We'll send a car,'" said Carter. "Squad car never shows up. I mean Jimmy John's is faster than the police now."
So Carter called Fox 2. We took pictures of the truck and staff back at the station ran the plate. In about an hour, Cowie was asking us how we found his truck. How? Because we responded to the call, something Carter said police did not do.
Meanwhile, we showed Cowie exactly where his truck was located. It's in bad shape, but he decided to tow it away and people on that east side block are glad it's gone.
"It just lets people bring other stuff in here and leave it, blight or whatever. Already got enough problems going on," Carter remarked.
Detroit Police told us they have no record of any 911 calls. Meanwhile, Cowie said he will be going to Warren Police on Tuesday to fill out paperwork to sort this all out.
