Memphis police confirmed Tuesday afternoon that they found the body of a small child in a dumpster near Abel and Butler in South Memphis.
Police removed the dumpster from the scene along with the remains inside. Police Director Toney Armstrong says they are treating the dumpster like a crime scene.
Tuesday evening, Director Armstrong confirmed that body belongs to missing three-year-old Maurice Brown Junior. Brown Junior. went missing from his father's home on Sunday evening.
His father, Maurice Brown Sr., told police that he was asleep and when he woke up, the child was missing. He claimed his son had been kidnapped. Brown Sr. was later arrested and charged with Aggravated Child Neglect or Endangerment.
"We did not get any information from the father in reference to the child's location," said Armstrong.
The dumpster where they found the body was just a few miles from where the child went missing.
"How could a person do something like that to a child? I wanna know, it don't make no sense, what the world is coming to?" asked Memphian Sandra Duncan.
