DETROIT (WJBK) -

A frightening scene unfolded at the intersection of East Warren and Chalmers on Detroit's east side.  A green Suburban T-boned a red pickup truck.  The truck rolled over multiple times and slid into a body shop.

A three-year-old and his grandfather were inside the truck.  Crews rescued the toddler, but his grandfather didn't make it.  Meanwhile, witnesses say bystanders pulled the driver of the green Suburban out of the SUV.

"He kind of like shook it off a little bit and took off running," said witness Rodney King.

He came back to the scene and was taken to the hospital.  At this point, it appears both drivers may have been at fault.

"Speed may have played a factor and also the disregard of a red signal. People have to be careful.  Even on slow speed roads fatal accidents can occur," said Detroit Police Detective Scott Sheets.

The three-year-old and the driver of the green Suburban are expected to survive.  Meanwhile, police are still investigating the accident.  If you have any information, call Detroit Police.
