A Millington plant caught fire this afternoon causing 40-45 workers to be evacuated and Fite Road to be blocked off.
Brent Perkins from the Shelby County Sheriff's office said the fire almost two hours to contain.
The fire mostly affected an area of the plant, where about 300-barrels of oxidizer were on fire, or threatened by fire. Pollution Control Industries describes itself as a recycling center that has "reclaimed 18.8 million pounds of hazardous chemicals into reusable products."
Perkins said this particular hazmat product, did not present a "serious threat" to people or the environment. Perkins said they considered just letting the barrels burn out but they didn't.
There were no injuries and Fite road has been re-opened.
The fire department will continue to monitor air quality until all firefighters have left the area
