A jury returned a guilty verdict in the trial of Andre Harris for the 2008 murder of COGIC Pastor Ronald Paige.
Harris was found guilty on two counts of First Degree Murder and one count of Theft for stabbing Paige 91 times in his Raleigh apartment and stealing his car and credit cards.
Defense attorneys had sought a lesser charge of manslaughter due to testimony by Harris that he had acted in self-defense as Paige made sexual advances towards him, but the prosecution argued that there was no evidence to support that claim.
Family members said they first heard of those allegations was in court this week.
"That's pretty devastating at this point because he has damaged my brother's name and reputation," said the victim's sister, Sharon Paige. "My brother's not here to defend himself against any of those allegations, none of which are true."
Judge Lee Coffee sentenced Harris to life in prison with the possibility of parole. He faces an additional sentence for the theft conviction on September 30th.
