Last year, local kids raised nearly $300,000 pounds of food for the Mid-South Food Bank during the Kids Kan Drive. The students made a huge impact by simply donating canned goods.
Call it corny, call it uncanny, or canny, the teachers greet the students every day in canned food outfits at Germantown Elementary School, just as a reminder. For 8 years running, Germantown Elementary has taken in more canned food items than any school in Shelby County for the Kids Kan Drive.
The teachers say the secret to Germantown elementary school's winning is simple: get everyone working toward a common goal.
The students get it. They understand the whole Kids Kan thing.
They're certain they'll be talking about 9 years of winning, and you can take that to the bank, The Mid-South Foodbank.
