JACKSON, Miss. (AP) - A Mississippi woman has been sentenced to life in prison in Jackson following her recent conviction in the death of a woman who received illicit injections of silicone in the buttocks. Tracey Lynn Garner of Jackson was sentenced Tuesday in Hinds County Circuit Court.

JACKSON, Miss. (AP) - A federal judge has ruled against a group that has been pressing for access to Mississippi voters' birthdates after a disputed Republican primary for Senate. The judge ruled that neither poll books nor absentee ballot applications are subject to public disclosure under a 1993 federal law.

JACKSON, Miss. (AP) - Jackson police have found the body of a 17-year-old girl they say was kidnapped and shot. Katelyn Beard's body was found Tuesday morning in a rural area north of Jackson, and authorities say a 19-year-old man has been captured and charged with aggravated assault and kidnapping in the case.

HOUSTON (AP) - Halliburton says it has agreed to pay $1.1 billion to settle a substantial portion of plaintiff claims arising from the 2010 Gulf of Mexico oil spill. The settlement, which is subject to court approval, will be paid into a trust until appeals are resolved over the next two years.
