PASCAGOULA, Miss. (AP) - The sentencing for former Jackson County Sheriff Mike Byrd on one state charge has been moved to avoid a conflict with his sentencing on one federal charge. Court documents show he will be sentenced March 11 in federal court in Mobile, Ala., in his federal case. The sentencing hearing on the state charge will be March 13 at the Jackson County Courthouse.
LIBERTY, Miss. (AP) - A 26-year-old Bude man has pleaded guilty in Amite County Circuit Court to manslaughter for the strangulation of a woman last summer. Matthew Wayne Moore pleaded guilty Tuesday, more than two months before his May 13 trial.
JACKSON, Miss. (AP) - Mississippi is one of only four states receiving additional funds from the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers for dredging and flood control along its major tributaries. Republican U.S. Sen. Thad Cochran says the Corps of Engineers will give an additional $14.4 million to Mississippi this year.
NATCHEZ, Miss. (AP) - Officials say a 65-year-old Natchez man has been arrested on charges of impersonating an officer after authorities say he flashed a badge after he rear-ended a driver in October. Natchez police say Joe Fortenberry is accused of pulling out an honorary badge claiming he was a sheriff's deputy.
