MURFREESBORO, Tenn. (AP) - An elementary school principal has been suspended after being charged with buying crack cocaine. Murfreesboro Police arrested 58-year-old Donnie Johnson on Friday after officers reported seeing him buy the drugs on multiple occasions. Johnson is the principal at Rockvale Elementary School and has been employed by Rutherford County Schools for more than 30 years.

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) - A number of Tennessee school systems have decided not to purchase social studies textbooks, and instead rely on the Internet and digital resources. Metro Nashville Public Schools, in particular, have asked teachers to use websites, interactive videos and primary resources as the main way to teach history, geography and other social studies topics.

KINGSPORT, Tenn. (AP) - A one-time assistant band director at an eastern Tennessee school faces more than a dozen counts of statutory rape by an authority figure after officials say he had a sexual relationship with a student. Twenty-three-year-old Ethan J. Tate of Johnson City was indicted last week and police arrested him Thursday.

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) - The new top prosecutor in Nashville has fired five attorneys from the previous administration in a postelection office shake-up. Davidson District Attorney General Glenn Funk dropped the lawyers Friday - a day after he took over the office.
