(NewsCore) - A Maryland man was facing criminal charges Saturday after he allegedly used illegal fireworks to blow up a gingerbread house on his porch, injuring his wife in the process.

Police said Jerry Lee Heinefield, 36, attempted to destroy the gingerbread house last Friday at his home in the waterfront town of Rock Hall, Md., by stuffing it with fireworks and igniting them, the Star Democrat reported.

His 33-year-old wife Catherine was hit in the wrist by a piece of shrapnel from the explosion. She was treated at a nearby hospital for a burn and a puncture wound.

Heinefield was charged with one count each of reckless endangerment, possession of illegal fireworks and discharge of fireworks.

He faces up to five years in prison and $10,500 in fines if convicted, according to WBOC-TV.
