(EndPlay Staff Reports) - On Wednesday's episode of "The Ellen Degeneres Show," the host addressed the recent appeal of Proposition 8 in California, as well as the current opposition from a conservative group about her new position as spokesperson for JCPenney.
One Million Moms, self-described as a conservative pro-family group, has publicly protested the department store's partnership with Ellen because she is openly gay.
The group's website stated, "By jumping on the pro-gay bandwagon, JCPenney is attempting to gain a new target market and in the process will lose customers with traditional values that have been faithful to them over all these years."
In response, Ellen addressed the issue in her opening monologue , saying, "Normally I try not to pay attention to my haters, but this time I'd like to talk about it 'cause my haters are motivators."
She also took issue, in a comedic way, with the use of the word "bandwagon."
"Being gay or pro-gay isn't a bandwagon. You don't get a free ride anywhere. There's no music. ... Occasionally we'll sing 'We Are Family,' but that's about it," Ellen said.
And when it comes to "traditional values," Ellen said she thinks she may have a few: honesty, equality, kindness, compassion, treating people the way you want to be treated and helping those in need.
The 54-year-old comedienne thanked her supporters and even showcased some of the supportive posts people wrote on the One Million Moms Facebook page.
One supporter wrote, "Way to go JCPenney for not giving into bullies. Stand your ground."
Another post read, "I am a Christian and part of a traditional family and I support Ellen and now JCPenney!"
