Temperatures near or over 100 are forecast in parts of Tennessee and Arkansas, and forecasters have issued heat warnings across both states.

Even in East Tennessee, where no warnings were yet posted on Monday morning, the National Weather Service was forecasting very warm weather.

An excessive heat warning was posted for all of West Tennessee and the northwestern corner of Middle Tennessee. The expected high temperature in Memphis on Monday afternoon is 101 degrees. Heat indexes are expected to soar to around 110 degrees during the afternoon in the Delta region.

In most of Middle Tennessee, a heat advisory was posted with an expected high of 98 degrees in Nashville and heat indexes up to 105 degrees. The plateau will be slightly cooler.

Highs in the mid-90s are anticipated for Chattanooga, Knoxville and the Tri-Cities.

The National Weather Service has also issued an excessive heat warning that includes much of eastern Arkansas and one county in western Arkansas.

A heat advisory is in effect for the remainder of the state.

The warning is in effect until 8 p.m. Tuesday for Clay, Craighead, Crittenden, Cross, Greene, Lawrence, Lee, Mississippi, Phillips, Poinsett, Randolph and St. Francis counties in eastern Arkansas and Sebastian County in western Arkansas.

Afternoon temperatures are expected in the low 100s statewide both days with heat indexes in the warning areas reaching 110 to 114 degrees. Heat indexes are expected to approach 110 degrees elsewhere.
