Memphis, TN - Six home games again highlight the 2012 Tiger Football schedule as released Thursday afternoon upon the completion of the Conference USA schedule.
Game times will not be set until a later date and game dates could potentially change based on the television contracts with Conference USA.
The Tigers will open the Coach Justin Fuente era with four straight non-conference meetings in the month of September. Memphis commences the season against UT Martin at Liberty Bowl Memorial Stadium on Sept. 1. This will be the first time since 2003 that Memphis will open with an FCS (Football Championship Subdivision) opponent; and the first time since 1948 that the Tigers do not have an SEC opponent on the schedule.
The Tigers, which played at Arkansas State in 2011, will make another trip to Jonesboro this season on Sept. 8 before hosting Middle Tennessee on Sept. 15. The squad closes the non league slate with a Sept. 22 meeting at Duke, marking the first battle between the two programs on the gridiron.
Memphis' bye week is slated for Sept. 29, giving the Tigers an additional week to prepare for the C-USA opener against Rice on Oct. 6 at the Liberty Bowl. This will be the latest start of the C USA schedule for the Tigers since opening with UAB on Oct. 9, 1999, after kicking off the season with five-straight non-conference meetings.
The Tigers make league trips to East Carolina (Oct. 13), SMU (Oct. 27), Marshall (Nov. 3) and UAB (Nov. 17) in 2012. In addition to Rice, the U of M will play host to UCF (Oct. 20), Tulane (Nov. 10), and Southern Miss (Nov. 24) in C-USA action. Season ticket prices have been lowered and just $55 will cover a ticket in the fun zone seats for all six home games. Prime seats are available at just $150 for all six games. The tickets can be purchased by contacting the U of M Ticket Office at 901-678-2331.
Other options available for the 2012 season are box seats for $250 and Stadium Club seating for $600. U of M faculty and staff are provided tickets for $75 for the entire season.
