Southaven, Ms - Inside Brown Baptist Church in Southaven, family, friends and football teammates of Bennie Abram remember a life lost on the football field he loved so much.
Last month at Ole Miss, Abram died after collapsing during the first day of team workouts.
Close friend Demareo Marr was there when it happened, “He always pushed himself. He was pushing himself. He pushed himself to the limit.”
Abram's father says he lived and breathed football, but it didn’t define him as a person. It was all about attitude and work ethic, “It was just always to just give it all you got just to be the best that you could possibly be.”
With heavy hearts, hundreds packed the church that Bennie Abram once went to. Abram's football jerseys were placed next to his casket.
Ole Miss Head Football Coach Houston Nutt says the junior was a shining light of dedication to the game, “He worked so hard and we remember looking at his films this guy is a hard worker and one day he'll probably earn a scholarship here so lets make him an Ole Miss rebel.”
Friends and family say regardless of the realities of his passing, the man from Southaven who defied the odds will always be remembered for not just his achievements on the football field, but for the inspiration he became for so many.
