MEMPHIS, Tenn. - The Memphis Grizzlies today announced the club’s summer league roster, headlined by 2009 draft selections Hasheem Thabeet, DeMarre Carroll and Sam Young along with Grizzlies veterans Darrell Arthur and Hamed Haddadi, which will compete in the 2009 NBA Summer League presented by EA SPORTS in Las Vegas, Nev. from July 12-19.
Memphis is the only team out of the NBA’s 21-team field whose schedule will feature all of the Top 3 picks in the 2009 NBA Draft. The Grizzlies, who selected Thabeet with the No. 2 overall pick, will tip off their schedule against James Harden (No. 3) and the Oklahoma City Thunder on July 12 and then meet Blake Griffin (No. 1) and the Los Angeles Clippers on July 16.
The Grizzlies’ five-game summer league schedule also includes games against the New York Knicks on July 14, the Phoenix Suns on July 18 and the San Antonio Spurs on July 19. All games will be played at either the COX Pavilion or Thomas & Mack Center. Grizzlies.com will post extensive coverage of the team in Las Vegas, including video footage and recaps from every game.
Grizzlies Assistant Coaches David Joerger and Damon Stoudamire and Grizzlies Advance Scout Gary Schmidt will coach the squad in the team’s third consecutive Vegas appearance. Memphis posted a 2-3 record in each of its previous two showings.
The team will depart for Las Vegas on July 8 and will practice daily (July 9-11) before its summer league opener vs. Oklahoma City.
