MEMPHIS, Tenn. - Saturday night's Grizzlies game at FedExForum is O.J. Mayo bobble head night, but O.J. Mayo won't be playing. Mayo is still serving a 10 game suspension for violating the NBA'S anti-drug program by testing positive for a steroid known as DHEA.
The 10 game suspension began Friday when the Grizzlies took on the Philadelphia 76ers, and Mayo won't be able to re-join the team until February 15th.
Mayo can still practice and participate in pre-game shoot around with the team, but since the suspension is without pay he loses about $405,000 in salary. Mayo told the media Saturday he did not take DHEA as an over the counter supplement, he said the substance was in an energy drink that he bought from a local Memphis gas station.
Team owner Michael Heisley said that Mayo had a lack of judgment but has shown complete accountability.
