MEMPHIS, Tenn. - It's a good day to be Lucky. Lucky the dog that is. Tuesday, FOX13 told you about the dog who'd been tied to a tree with an inch deep gouge around 2/3's of his neck. Now, Lucky is feeling a lot better and his owner is facing several violations.
Memphis Animal Services has issued an ordinance summons to the dog’s owner for animal cruelty, failure to license, failure to vaccinate and neuter the dog.
Thursday, Lucky (the dog’s new name), is waging his tail Lucky to be alive.
For the last several days this dog named Lucky has been fighting to stay alive after it's owner left him in the cold, with a chain deeply embedded in his neck.
“He had a chain buried an inch into his neck causing a inch deep 3 inch wide wound over 2/3's of his neck,” said veterinarian Jennifer Limbaugh who treated him.
It all unfolded Sunday when a man saw Lucky tied to this tree. After some confusion the good Samaritan took the dog himself to Parkway Village Companion Animal Hospital.
Memphis Police Director Larry Godwin is now demanding answers.
“I've got an internal investigation going one to ensure that our policies are good and are we doing the right things and find out what really took place on the scene, then secondly I’ve got the criminal investigation going of whether or not the homeowner abused the animal,” said Godwin in Tuesday’s interview with FOX13.
A light at the end of this dark tunnel, Lucky is now in the care and hands of the Memphis Humane Society.
Wednesday administrators introduced us to the Lucky dog. They say Lucky is recovering, and making big progress both emotionally and physically.
Anyone interested in adopting Lucky should contact the Memphis Humane Society or donating to help Lucky's medical expenses.
