MEMPHIS, Tenn. - Inside the Mid-South Food Bank the stock is running low. On the shelves and in the warehouse, gaps are left where food should be. Those who help and feed the needy here say right now is a critical time and they need your help.
Susan Sanford says, "We need the entire community to come together with us we cant do it by ourselves."
The Mid-South Food Bank if you didn't know serves 31 counties in Tennessee, Mississippi and Arkansas. But with tough times across the country and right here in the metro their supplies that local charities rely on are running out, and countless families are in danger of starving.
Sanford says, "I've been here 19 years this is the worst food emergency crisis I have ever seen."
Across the street another helping hand in Memphis MIFA too is feeling the economic slide.
Sally Heinz says, "And we really see it at MIFA everyday many people coming through our doors asking for help and assistance."
With programs in place to help, MIFA representatives say the donors in Memphis are still donating. The problem the amount being given is a far cry from yester-year.
Heinz says, "Individual giving is down about 10% we have the
same number donors however those individuals are giving slightly
less."
