A wet Winchester road may have helped bust a burglary ring. Memphis police say suspects trying to get-away fast, crashed into another car and a telephone pole, spilling loot all over. It happened around 1:30 this afternoon, near Neely and Winchester.
Police say this crime spree may have started before today. Officers believe Monday night; the group was involved in a carjacking and another home burglary. But by this afternoon, officers say the group was busted.
"Everything that has been lost, it can be replaced," Amber Lyons said.
Lyons isn't concerned about her family's stuff. Officers say at least three suspects took-off with it Tuesday afternoon from her Brakebill Cove home.
"They ransacked my whole room. They tore the bed up, tore up the closet, took a drawer out of the dresser... they took the whole dresser," Lyons said.
Neighbors say, within minutes, the burglars loaded-up the car. Officers say even the car was carjacked. They believe the group hit-up another house Monday night, by the looks of the loot from the car, like the TV.
"That one possibly came from another location because the owner on Brakebill advised he did not have a flat screen TV," Major Anthony Berryhill said.
In the rush to get away from Lyons' home, Police say the suspects' carjacked Nissan sideswiped a black Honda with a woman inside.
"Three boys jumped out all the windows and let out on foot. Poor lady there was hanging out of her driver's side window, yelling 'help me," witness David Loyd said.
Lyons says the suspects deserved what they got.
"And, I'm thankful that they picked my house out of all the houses because there are people that are here during the day time, and I would rather that you break into my house, than harm someone else," Lyons said.
Police did have to chase a few of the suspects on foot. The ones who were injured from the crash--including the woman in the Honda--were taken to the hospital in non-critical condition. We heard at the scene, one of the suspects may still be on the run. So, if you have any more information that can help police, call Crimestoppers at 528.CASH.
