MEMPHIS, Tenn. - It seems Bruce Tuck was attracted to wearing the badge, and upholding the law. He started back more than 10 years ago with the state department of corrections. After the serious allegations of rape and sexual assault, Tuck will likely never be given a badge, again.
Bruce Tuck spent his entire career in and out of law enforcement jobs. His career spanned a decade before he ended up on the other side of the law.
His first job was with the Tennessee Department of Corrections. He started at the Lake County Correctional facility in April 1997. Almost three months later, he resigned his post. The following year, in February, he was hired back at the Mark Luttrell Correction Center. At the end of the month, he resigned again.
A few months later, in September, Tuck joined the Shelby County Sheriff's office. He worked as a volunteer with the emergency services bureau. During his 6 years there, he received one reprimand for not following the chain of command. He resigned for full time employment in April 2004.
Fast forward to the summer of 2002, Tuck was hired as a jailer for Collierville Police Department. During his 6 month probationary period, he was cited for unsatisfactory work performance and behavior. It was noted Tuck was not getting along with coworkers, and he was found reviewing files of female inmates. He was terminated in January of 2003.
The following year, Tuck joined the ranks of the Oakland Police Department as a volunteer. While working as a reserve officer, he lied to the chief, and later confessed to vandalizing a sergeant's patrol car. He was let go in June.
From there, tuck went to volunteer with the Rossville police department. He was hired a couple months later, in September, as a patrol officer. The chief sponsored him into the Shelby County basic reserve academy, but Tuck couldn't pass the personal training test. That was one of the factors leading to his termination in January 2005.
At the end of 2005, Tuck was sworn in as an auxiliary probation officer for Shelby County Juvenile court. He was cited as an excellent volunteer supervisor. He resigned in September 2007.
Tuck also served as a volunteer firefighter for the Munford fire department. His time there was so short; no records of him were on file. We're only told he never made it past any probationary period.
